Burritt was in many ways a remarkable woman – a suffragist who worked with Susan B. Anthony, a woman educated far beyond the boundaries of early 20th century custom, a mother of six who shared with her husband, a public health advocate, a lifelong concern for women and children. Professional Recording Artist, Saireh Woods, is a Broadway veteran who received wide acclaim for her work with gifted artists such as Sir Clifford Williams, Stephen Sondheim; and Hal Price, one of Broadway’s best producers and directors. For Saireh, the poems on this CD are meaningful because they come from someone like her own grandparents who were the “salt of the earth”, with integrity of spirit, love for family, the land, and what grows on it.
